We’re Building Our Team: Business Development Director

Position Overview
This is an important role to Marketing Workshop’s growth strategies. While there are specific accountabilities that must be fulfilled, the position requires a flexible willingness to support Marketing Workshop in any way that may bring benefit to our organization at large. We are an entrepreneurial-minded organization of the size and business model that engages every team member without bounds. Key accountabilities of our Business Development Director are:

Identify new client prospects and build a robust pipeline for new business

Generate business from new clients, sales achievement at reasonable goal levels

Generate additional business from existing clients, independently or in conjunction with other Marketing Workshop team members, growing existing relationships

Our Business Development Directors contributions entail executive level strategic and logistic activities. The primary role of the Business Development Director is to prospect for new clients by networking, cold calling, advertising, or other means of generating interest from potential clients. The Business Development Director must then plan persuasive approaches and pitches that will convince potential clients to do business with the company. He or she must develop a rapport with new clients, and set targets for sales, and provide support that will continually improve the relationship. He or she is required to grow and retain existing accounts by presenting new solutions and services to clients.

Ambassador of New Business
• Serve as a consistent ambassador of our brand - Marketing Workshop
• Consistently demonstrate the ability to attract and retain new business
• Establish goals and pace against them with diligence and consistent progress
• Aggressively network in person and digitally to make new acquaintances and form new relationships that advantage Marketing Workshop
• Beyond established network, cold call to generate and maintain a healthy pipeline of prospects
• Negotiate and close proposals at a high level of new business acquisition
• Proposal development and client presentations

Steward of Retention & Growth
• Grow existing accounts vertically expanding scope of our work within established client channels, and laterally within different departments and channels of the client organization
• Travel as needed to secure and retain client relationships
• Confer and collaborate with the broader Marketing Workshop team
• Client meetings and consultations

Business Development Planning & Administration
• Attend industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provide feedback and information on market and creative trends.
• Present to and consult with mid and senior level management on business trends with a view to developing new services, products, and distribution channels.
• Identify opportunities for campaigns, services, and distribution channels that will lead to an increase in sales.
• Written weekly updates and review of your activities with the Marketing Workshop Executive Team
• Maintenance of prospect and client working folders on shared drives
• Participate with Marketing Workshop Client Services Team as advantageous to support client projects
• Review all final deliverables generated for clients under your purview
• Stay on top of research industry trends and topics to remain current, conversant and compelling
• Seek/participate in continuing education focused on enhancing research technical and strategic skills
• Constantly seek input to refine new business development and client enrichment process

This position directly reports to Cari Pirello, Senior Vice President, and will otherwise work in close collaboration with Marketing Workshop team members at large, as is our business model.

Education
The Business Development Director must have a Bachelor’s degree and 5 to 10 years Business Development experience in the Marketing Research Segment. An MBA is a plus.

Ultimately a good fit candidate will be hands-on, a results-oriented strategic thinker, a team player with an entrepreneurial spirit, and be able to cite examples of their proven Business Development skills.

Overview:
The Research Manager is responsible for the management and oversight of all elements of project management within the context of custom, primary marketing research.  The position requires specific skills and professionalism to execute all aspects of research projects.

A marketing-minded investigative researcher with ability and enthusiasm for managing and executing projects from conceptual stages through story telling. Willing to do the heavy lifting. Entrepreneur spirited, corporate arena savvy, hard wired for superior client service. Thrives on collaboration. Ambitious and promotable.

Brings proven and demonstrated competencies:
• Background of research management within supplier side organization, minimum 2 years. Client side experience a plus.
• Working knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
• Consultant mentality.
• Strategic thinker with ability and willingness to undertake the tactical elements of a project.
• Ability to manage multiple research projects fully. From creation to final report and presentation.
• Excellent with in-person and written client interface and possess presentation abilities.
• Embracing teamanship and collaboration.

Contributions
• Investigative, resourceful and diligent about becoming intimate with client's brand history, current aspirations, corporate culture, competitive landscape to lend relevant consultation.
• The ability to use research best practices while customizing programs to maximize client investment.
• Experienced with research design and proposal drafting. Questionnaire development, field coordination, all project guiding documents.
• Excellent project organization and detail management, record keeping and chronicling to keep the entire team informed.
• Proficient data management skills - preparation of codes, code nets and data tabulating specifications.
• Design tabulation/analytical plans in collaboration with data sciences team members.
• Writes interpretive summary of results with relevant recommendations, and has ability to create an industry leading presentation.
• Ensures that each project stays on schedule and within budget while adhering to MW quality standards.
• Consult with client about findings, opportunities and solutions for projects we are engaged in.
• Well organized and proficiently conduct client facing meetings and presentations.
• Some, but minimal travel. Conventional hours usually, with non-traditional time commitments occasionally.
